Lightweight structure laboratory have test machines, for most types of material structural characterisation, involving quasi-static test machines, hydraulic machines, high speed impact hammer, drop weight tower, environmental chambers and ovens. Furthermore we have composite manufacturing facilities and specimen preparation.
For large structural tests we utilise the 10x15 m concrete test floor with over 100 load fixing points.
Instron 30kN
Our Instron 30kN universal test machine is an elektro-mechanical machine equipped with a purpose built digital control unit for accurate control and data recording. The system allow for
- easy control of load, strain, position, test rate etc
- test procedure design and modification
- real time plots & numerical data display
- storage test data for future recalculations
We have several standard test grips for tension, compression and shear test as well as purpose built rigs, e.g. delamination tests, end notch flexure, slow impact test equipment and more.
Max load: 30 kN
Max test speed: 10 mm/min
Max travel: 500 mm
Test direction: Tension and compression

Schenk PSA 10 kN
The smallest hydraulic test machine has a 10kN as standard but may be fitted with a smaller for better accuracy and higher resolution when testing small and/or week parts at low loads. The PC digital control unit enables constant amplitude loading sequence as well as spectrum fatigue loading. It may be run under load, displacement or strain control. It can be fitted with any of our purpose built climate chambers for hot or hot/wet fatigue testing.
Max load: 10 kN (static)
Max load: 8 kN (dynamic)
Max travel: 100 mm
Opening: 900 mm
Schenk PSA 40 kN
We have two, almost, identical 40 kN hydraulic test machines for fatigue testing. The larger machine has a bigger opening, 1200 mm. The PC digital control unit enables constant amplitude loading sequence as well as spectrum fatigue loading. It may be run under load, displacement or strain control. It can be fitted with any of our purpose built climate chambers for hot or hot/wet fatigue testing.
Max load: 40 kN (static)
Max load: 32 kN (dynamic)
Max travel: 100 mm
Opening: 1200 and 800 mm

Impact drop weight tower
The impact drop weight tower is purpose built and can be adjusted to any of your demands. The current maximum height is 5 meters. Several impactors, sharp, spherical, cylindrical etc are available. A high resolution, fast sampling laser extensometer is used for speed and retardation measurements and the impactor may be fitted either with a load cell or an accelerometer at your request.
