Structures Laboratory - Testing

Lightweight structure laboratory is specialised in composite and sandwich testing and characterisation. We are also familiar with fatigue testing of metals and lightweight alloys. We are familiar with all common test standards. In the following short descriptions of commonly used methods are given. Detailed testing specifics are exemplified. Note that the methods in general allow variations from those given herein. Lightweight structures work in the forefront of sandwich design and testing and hence several test methods are not yet standardised but are regarded as reliable and well established within the composite community.

Sandwich materials
ASTM D3410 Sandwich edgewise compression test
ASTM C364 Sandwich edgewise compression test
ASTM C393 Sandwich four-point bending
Fatigue of sandwich materials (based on ASTM C393)
DNV Sandwich core materials – standards for certification

Foam core materials
ASTM D1621 Compression properties rigid cellular plastics
